Obituary for Rauf Rahaman

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father Rauf Rahaman, in his ninety-first year. Rauf was a devoted husband to Janet Nazla, father to Reeza Gavin Osborne (Catherine), Janet Radford (Mark Willard) and Daren Radford (Anne Marie), a proud grandfather to Patrick, Christopher, Jonathan, Morgan and Nicholas. He is survived by his three children, five grandchildren and siblings Faizul, Robbie and Jean.
Rauf was born in Guyana in 1931 when Guyana was a British colony. He was the third eldest in a family of six children. Rauf took over his family’s lumber business for a few years before marrying Janet in 1954. Just prior to Guyanese independence, Rauf immigrated to England with his wife, Janet Nazla, and children Reeza and Janet. He trained as an accountant and worked in the British National Health system. When economic times got difficult in England, Rauf emigrated from England to Canada in 1975 with his family including Daren who was born in England in 1964. He continued his accounting career in Canada, working in the hospital sector until his attempt at retirement at age 62 which was extended several times at the request of his employer.
Rauf was a devoted husband to Janet Nazla and supportive parent to all of his children and their families and a devoted grandparent to all of his grandchildren, taking great interest in their hobbies, education and even their pets. He and Janet were enthusiastic hosts and then enthusiastic participants in countless family gatherings and milestones. He was incredibly generous and kind to all of his extended family and assumed a leadership role within his own family once his eldest sibling passed away at a young age. He will be greatly missed by his extended family and all whose lives he touched. Rauf’s passing only a week after his beloved Janet assured that they departed this life together after more than 68 years of marriage.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory of Rauf to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to the Oakville Hospital Foundation.
