Obituary for Leandro Zuccato

Leandro passed away peacefully on June 18th at the incredible age of 102. He is predeceased by his treasured and loving wife, Marina (2018). He was the patriarch of our family, a loving father to Lilly (Ilaria) & Ken, Loris & Donna, and Denise & Carlo. A dear grandfather to Steven & Krista, Jen, Mark, Ryan, and Holly, and great-grandfather to Alexis, Liam, and Luke. He will be dearly missed by his caregivers Marites and Analy.

Leandro was the youngest of 10 children, born in Bannia, Pordenone, Italy. He was a proud Bersagliere who fought for Italy during World War II. After the war and his marriage to Marina, they immigrated to Canada together with their first daughter, Lilly. He embraced life in Canada, took on the hardships that came with being a newcomer and, together with his wife, built a beautiful home.

He was a bricklayer by trade and very artistic with his hands, always having another project to embark on. He was especially passionate about his flowers, fruit trees, garden and just about everything ‘green,’ and always particular in his ways, comportment, and appearance.

Most importantly, he was a humble gentleman of integrity, honesty, and loyalty to his family. He was truly ‘a man of his times.’ He always enjoyed the closeness of the large circle of family and friends that came through his home throughout his long, rich life, many of whom stayed for years as first immigrants themselves to Canada.

His life was well lived, rich and blessed with a great deal of love. He will be so sadly missed by us all, however, he leaves behind a long legacy and a special something in all our hearts. We find comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with our Mom, his cherished wife, Rina.
