Obituary for Jorge De Medeiros Sousa

Jorge De Medeiros Sousa, 73, of Concord, Ontario, passed away on November 17, 2020, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born to parents, Jorge De Sousa Morgado and Maria Dos Santos Medeiros, on May 27, 1947 in Lomba Da Maia, São Miguel, Açores. After completing the 4th grade, Jorge started his first job. Jorge took pride in his dedication to his work and family, starting at the young age of 12, he was charged with the task of carrying drinking water to women picking tea leaves in the hot sun and in his teenage years, started to help care for the family dairy cattle and agriculture when his father fell ill due to complications related to diabetes. After marrying Maria Ines, the love of his life, in 1972, he moved to Canada to build a better life for himself and his bride. His father passed away the following year, but with his death, came new life as Jorge's wife gave birth to their first-born son on the date of his father's passing. In Canada, Jorge quickly dedicated himself to the construction industry and spent much of his career working in heavy construction building highway bridges as a carpenter, retiring at the age of 62.
Jorge is survived by his wife Maria, son Fernando, daughter Eduarda, sons Jorge and Frank, their spouses, as well as 4 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, José Luis De Medeiros Sousa.
Jorge was a serious man, one of his qualities that his kids grew to find endearing was his inability to get sarcasm as he took things literally. On the rare occasion that you found him telling a tale he would always follow it with "isso é só uma anedota", to be sure his audience knew he was just kidding. He was a sports fan and particularly enjoyed watching hockey, soccer as well as boxing no matter who was competing.
He loved his family and friends; he showed his love by offering his time and talents whenever help was needed. Whether it was picking up his grandkids from school when they were feeling ill or taking them to soccer practice, helping an aging aunt and grown children with gardening, helping out his kids, brothers or buddies with a home renovation project, or giving anyone in need of a lift to the airport, he was always there. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he has touched.

Now that York Region and Toronto have moved to a “Red Zone”, public visitations will allow a maximum of 25 people in attendance per visitation room. All attendees must be scheduled by appointment only. Scheduling will be arranged through the immediate family. Unfortunately, cycling of guests, and in and out privileges are not allowed.

We would kindly remind all guests who are coming to pay their respects, to always remember to practice physical distancing and to avoid all physical contact.

Please note that it is now mandatory by the Government of Ontario that all family and friends attending any type of funeral service, must be wearing a facial covering.
