Obituary for Janet Nazla Rahaman

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Janet Nazla Rahaman, in her ninetieth year. Janet was a devoted mother to Reeza Gavin Osborne (Catherine), Janet Radford (Mark Willard) and Daren Radford (Anne Marie), a proud and a devoted grandmother to Patrick, Christopher, Jonathan, Morgan and Nicholas. She is survived by her three children, five grandchildren and sibling, Rita Mohamed in Georgetown, Guyana.
Janet was born in Guyana in 1932 when Guyana was a British colony into a family of two daughters. After losing her mother at an early age, Janet took up teaching which she continued after marrying Rauf, her childhood sweetheart, in 1954. She was a devoted mother to Reeza and Janet who were born in Guyana. Just prior to Guyanese independence, Rauf immigrated to England ahead of Janet to establish a life for the family in a new country. Janet followed several months later with their children. Janet continued her teaching career in England then worked in admissions for the University of London before joining Rauf and the children in a move to Canada in 1975. By this time the family included Daren who was born in England in 1964.
Janet was a was a devoted wife to Rauf, a supportive parent to all of her children and their families and a wildly enthusiastic grandparent to all of her grandchildren, taking great interest in their hobbies, clothing, interests, talents, education and even their pets. Janet and Rauf were keen hosts and then enthusiastic participants in countless family gatherings and milestones. Janet was a gentle soul who loved beauty and elegance in all things including nature and her surroundings, appreciating painting, music, fashion and home décor. She was incredibly generous and kind to all of her extended family and their pets. She will be greatly missed by all of her extended family and all whose lives she touched. Janet’s passing within a week of Rauf assured that they departed this life together after more than 68 years of marriage.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Janet’s name to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to the Oakville Hospital Foundation.
