Obituary for Jacques Germain Chauvet

On April 4, 1954, Jacques Germain Chauvet left his home in Paris, France for a better life in Canada. He could have made Montreal his home but, in his quest to learn English, chose Toronto instead. He took on many jobs, one of which was tending the flower gardens for the prestigious Eaton family.

A few years later he was joined by Monique who would become his devoted wife on June 22, 1957. The following year they welcomed their first-born son Patrick (Connie) and a few years later another son, Marc. Always looking to take care of his family, he took on a job as a butcher with Loblaw where he retired after 37 years’ service.

Jacques had a zest for life and enjoyed everything from gardening, to being a handyman, to making French pates and wine and travelling every corner of the world. But most of all, he was happiest when his family was around. He always marveled at how he came to Canada alone but created a joyful and fulfilling family life.

One of his greatest joys in life are his grandchildren Jennifer and David, and great grandchildren Duncan and Arthur, who so love their cherished grand pere!

On January 31st, 2022 in his 94th year, Jacques left a huge void in our lives as he unexpectedly passed. He is forever cherished by his loving wife, family, and friends. He may be gone, but his hard work and devotion to his family and friends created countless memories to treasure forever, not to mention the many wonderful adventures in his life that helped shape the incredible man that he was. His legacy will live on forever in a family that cherishes and adores him.
