Obituary for Eva Trankovits

EVA TRANKOVITS
13 June 1923 – 6 January 2023
Eva Trankovits, née Hevesi, was born in Budapest, Hungary, and survived the Holocaust in the Budapest Ghetto. She married Frank (Ferenc) Trankovits in 1954 and they spent 54 mostly happy years together until Frank’s death in 2009. Their daughter, Susan (Zsuzsanna) was born in 1955, and in 1956, they escaped from Hungary, eventually settling in Vancouver. There, Eva owned a succession of beauty salons for many years before switching careers and becoming a bookkeeper. The family moved to Toronto in 1972 and, with her outgoing personality and charm, Eva quickly made many new friends in her new city, usually while indulging in her passion for playing bridge.
Eva will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her daughter, Susan Trankovits, her grandson, Karel Češpiva, her son-in-law, Petr Češpiva, her nephew Laszlo Richter and his children, Robert Richter and Jůlia Richter. The same is true for her many friends, in particular, Vera and Milan Cvetković and their family.
Eva’s family thanks the terrific and very hard-working staff of Cummer Lodge Long-Term Care Home, 2 South, where she lived for the last year of her life, for the wonderful care they provided Eva. They went above and beyond all expectations to make sure she was comfortable and happy.
