Obituary for Elda Julia Carlotta Chesani Morson

Cherished family and friends,
It is with deep sadness that we share with you the news of Elda's death on Sunday, July 26, 2020.

A devoted mother to Enzo (and Jeanné-Marie Lacalamita-Morson), George, Claudio (and Chantal Lalonde); and a cherished Bobonne to Enzo and Jeanné's children: Jean-Paul (Jenny Dewan), Danielle (Amir Mostaghim), André (Nina Veselka), Élise (Barrett Brooke) and great-grandchildren: Kyla, Nolan and Nava, her presence, though profoundly missed already, will remain steadfast with us in the warmest of memories and treasured anecdotes that come from your hearts and times shared, as well as our own.

Placed in palliative care at Humber River the morning after her emergency visit on July 14th, Elda was acutely aware of her declining condition. Sadly and painfully, because of Covid regulations, we could not be with her every day. Her valiant team, Claudio and Chantal, George, Enzo and Jeanné took alternating days for the first week, but further restrictions in the second week reduced visits to only two designated family members. Her grandchildren were distraught over not being able to be at her side. Though George and Claudio were able to coordinate a few visits via video chat for some family members (her brothers, Fr. Rino Endrizzi and Lino Chesani, from Belgium included), it was painfully obvious that each day became harder for Elda to sustain her energy to speak. Though physical pain was managed carefully, it pained her to be distanced from her immediate family and loving caregiver of three years, Connie Costales. Our family's last occasion to speak with her was on Saturday, July 25. She was able to enjoy only a brief conversation before closing her eyes, exhausted. A video call on the same afternoon from her brother, Fr. Rino, lasted only a moment but allowed them to make the Sign of the Cross together. In retrospect, this was her last outward act of faith. Elda never lost hope in the saving presence of Christ; never lost sight of the gift of her life and the promise of new life. Elda was confident where she was going beyond this time of suffering.

Our dearest Elda, Mom, Bobonne died yesterday at 2:20 p.m. Her attending nurse came into her room to check on her and witnessed her final breath. There was neither angst nor distress; her passing was peaceful.

A very special word of thanks to all of Elda's caregivers, especially Merryvic Santiago and Connie Cordero Costales. Their attentive presence and compassionate care has always been so very appreciated by all of us, especially Elda and her dear husband, Elio (Santin).

Wishing all of you who have known and loved Elda and enjoyed her warmth and friendship peace of heart, mind and spirit.
On behalf of Enzo and Jeanné-Marie, Claudio and Chantal, and George, we wish to thank all our extended family and friends for sustaining us with your words and acts of love, comfort and prayers. Know that you continue to be in ours.

Please...do not feel obliged, but If anyone was considering sending flowers, please consider instead a donation to our cherished Franciscan Friars at Immaculate Conception Parish. Again, know that nothing is expected. Your prayers and genuine friendship, however, is the most treasured bouquet you could possibly share with us in these times.

Funeral Mass for Elda Julia Carlotta Chesani-Morson
Please keep in mind - Private Invitation Only
- Immaculate Conception Church (TO)
- 2 Richardson Avenue
- Friday, July 31 at 10:00 a.m.
- Celebrant: Fr. James Wells, ofm
Because of Covid restrictions that currently only permit 50 people (including immediate family) in the church, we are sadly and regretfully compelled to restrict attendance by personal invitation only.

All persons receiving a personal invitation to the Funeral Mass will receive a telephone call shortly from either Enzo, Claudio or me. Church attendants will have a copy of the list of invited guests. It pains us deeply to plan with these stringent parameters but we do not want anyone to experience being declined permission to enter the Church and we do not wish to put anyone's health at risk.

We also understand that though many of you may wish to be with us in spirit, you may choose not to attend because of your own health issues or concerns. Know that your health or well-being is most important to us.
Please note that masks are mandatory at the Church as well as physical distancing.

Again, because of Covid restrictions, Interment at Beechwood Cemetery, following the funeral Mass, will be with her children and grandchildren only and sadly, there will be no gathering afterwards. We hope to be able to visit in some way with you, individually, in the near future. This is not how we envisioned the celebration of Elda's life, so we are very grateful for your understanding in these most challenging times.

Eternal rest grant unto Elda, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.

May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,

through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
