Obituary for Delphina Scarlett

Delphina Scarlett was born in the sunny island of Jamaica in the parish of St. Ann on February 6, 1936. She was one of ten children from the marriage union between the late Stanford and Iretta Walford. Delphina was the fourth of ten siblings.
While she was living in St. Ann, she attended Murry Mountain School where she specialized in sewing. After completing school, she went with one of her sisters to the parish of Trelawney where she lived and work. After a few years, she moved to the parish of St. Elizabeth. There she met and married the love of her life, the late Mr. Kennute Scarlett. Delphina and Kennute had four girls Blossom, Beverley, Elaine and Marva and one boy, Winston.
Delphina migrated to Toronto, Canada in 1982 to meet up with her two sisters, Estella Colthrist and Dorothy Hall. These sisters had an unbreakable bond . They were affectionately known as the Golden Girls.
In 1993, Delphina was baptized by her Bishop, Wilbert Peynado. She was filled with the Holy Ghost in 1997. Delphina’s love and faithfulness to Jesus Christ could be seen in her active involvement in the church ministries. She was an active member of the Willing Worker Department. She loved the brethren and was devoted in being a spiritual mother to many in the church. She was affectionately known as Mother Scarlett. Mother Scarlett would always leave a word of encouragement along with a beautiful smile with anyone she interacts with. She was absolutely loved by her bishop, Bishop Wilbert Peynado and the church family.
One of Mother Scarlett’s favorite dish to eat was dry yellow yam with roast saltfish. Whenever she walked in a West Indian grocery store and see the yellow yam, she would often say “dry yellow yam” with a chuckle.
Delphina was a warm, soft spoken and loving person. Whenever Delphina walked into a room she lights up the room with her infectious smile. Many people would draw close to her because of these reasons.
On Monday, May 3, 2021, the Lord saw it fit to take her home. Our hearts were broken, and our lives will never be the same, but she will always be in our hearts. Delphina is predeased by her father Stanford and mother Iretta. She is survived by her five children, Blossom, Beverly, Elaine, Marva and Winston, her four sisters and one brother, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and her church family.
Until we meet again, may you Sleep In Peace, Delphina.
