It is with great sadness that on September 4, 2020 Carlos Gortari passed away suddenly at the age of 71. Carlos will be forever remembered by his daughter Sara, and son Marcelo, as a devoted father who would have done anything for his children. He was an intelligent, hard-working, patient, and strong man with an unending passion for a just world. His kind spirit will be deeply missed by his loved ones.

The family has decided to honor Carlos privately in lieu of a formal service and encourage all those whose lives Carlos has touched to do the same in their own special way.

Pocho.

I'm so sorry Sara and Marcelo to hear about the passing of your father Carlos. My deepest condolences to you and your family. He was a hardworking and devoted Father. I have many memories of playing with Sara in her room and having to keep the noise down because her father slept during the day and worked at night time. If he wasn't resting for work I have vivid memories of him sitting at your kitchen table reading either a book or the newspaper and drinking his Matte🧉.I remember thinking to myself that he is the only father I have ever seen reading a book. I always knew he was a smart man. I recall Carlos having a very interesting collection of books and I remember he had a picture of Che. I had no idea who Che was at that age I actually thought it was a picture of Carlos when he was younger lol. I recall Sara laughing at me when I asked her how old her dad was in that picture, I recieved my first brief lesson about Che that day. Growing up in an apartment building as kids you spend alot of time around your friends families and I frequented the Gortari home alot. Carlos was the father whom never yelled or got upset especially not infront of us kids. A man of few words , a very humble man. When Carlos spoke we listened. One thing you did know was that he loved his children very much. May he rest in eternal peace and live on through is children and grand children. Xo ❤🧉🙏

My deepest condolences to you Sara and Marcelo for the loss of your wonderful father. What a man he was... educated and full of knowledge, he was always willing to talk about politics and the injustices in the world. What he instilled in you, Sara, forever shaped the way I now look at the world. He was always ready to chat about soccer, his beloved Uruguay, and his hatred of the over-hyped Gattuso. The best grandfather and companion to little Gizmo, he took care of him like he was his own. So many beautiful memories of this man, but the things I'll never forget were his love of his children, how he would do anything for them; the pride he beamed with the day you graduated Sara, I'll never forget it. Looking through photos, I'm in tears and full of gratitude for the way this man welcomed me into his family, and treated me kindly. Wish I had one last chance to sit with him to watch another match on TV, chat about all the things wrong in the world, and to tell him how much I appreciated him. May he rest in peace.
